How do we change the alternator on a Santa Fe?

What is the easiest way to change an alternator on a 2005 Santa Fe. my alternator is going out, and my husband is going to change it. We have looked up online, and one site said we have to remove the AC unit, another says you don't please help. Going to a mechanic would be almost $500 dollars.

AC ? no it will not be affected and no need to remove. maybe what you are try to say is the AC belt.

removing AC belt to give way for alternator removal will not affect the AC, just make sure to retighten the belts well..
Sounds like you are getting taken for a ride by the mechanic. I would go to the dealership and get a second opinion.

I just got an alternator swapped out at a local vocational school and it ended up costing me $75 and a case of beer for the student's time (they couldnt accept cash)
