Changing oil and spilled some on my alternator, will that hurt it?

I was changing my oil and was wondering if its bad for your car to change the oil while its still hot, like immediately after shutting it off?

Also I used a funnel but it kind of tipped to the side a bit causing a considerable amount of oil to spill on my valve cover and into alternator, you think thats going to hurt the alternator?

The very best chemical to remove grease is any cheap carburetor cleaner followed with CRC Brake Clean. The brake clean will remove any remaining scum or residue the carb. cleaner missed. It's best to do this with the motor run so the commutator and brushes inside the alternator get clean as well as the field windings.

It shouldn't as long as it was not a whole lot. try some orange Brit engine degreaser.
no when the motor gets hot it will burn off
No!, do not use a degreaser on the alternator, the copper windings are coated in a petroleum based coating, you will be fine. Wipe up as much of the spilled oil as you can with a rag. The rest of the oil will drip or burn off. It will smell for a while and you will see smoke, but you will be ok. and to answer your other question, it is ok to change your oil hot. it is actually preferred so the oil will drain from the crankcase better and faster. rest easy that you are ok.... have a good evening.
