Can any good mechanic change the alternator to an Audi?

I have a 2001 Audi A4 and the alternator is shot. Should I take it to the dealer, or can any good/reputable mechanic take care of this issue? Is the alternator for the audi common knowledge as it would be for a Nissan/Honda? I know there are some things that one must go to the dealer for....

any good repair shop should be able to change that one out, everything don't have to be done to those cars from a dealer, their not that hard of a car to work on,good luck.

any good mechanic can change it. Allot of times if you look in the city there are independent shops the specialize in Audi/Volkswagen/Porsche or mercedes etc they are a really good shop to take it too they really know european cars.
I would find a independent mechanic who specializes in german cars. You need a different type of tools to do the job properly. He can also advise you on any other repairs needed and will be cheaper then a dealer.
