Just changed the alternator but the car still shuts off when removing ground post...?

Got a 2005 Ford Taurus, it was having problems and was not keeping charged for very long. When we removed the negative post it shut off. So we got a new Alternator for it and installed it yesterday, But when we remove the negative post it still shuts off. We doubled checked and everything is installed correctly, what else could it be?

Your car shut off because an alternator needs a small amount of electricity to make electricity. (The field circuit)

The trick of removing the battery cable to see if it's charging went out with old cars that used generators. Removing the battery cable on a car made in the last 20 years is a good way to fry the electronics which can cost thousands to replace.

Start the car and measure the voltage with a voltmeter or multimeter. You can get a cheap one at Wal Mart. It should read 13.5-14.5 volts if it is charging properly.

First of all, I believe it is not a good idea to take of the negative post of the battery anymore because of the computer controls. That used to be the accepted way to check the alternator, but it is now being discouraged, it can damage your car's systems.

Take the car to the parts store and they should check your battery and charging system for free.
You need to use a DVOM (volt meter) to test and see if it is working correctly, the new vehicles will not stay running when you disconnect the battery like they did in the older vehicles!
i would,nt be doing that too much especially to a car with a computer. it,s probably something else causing it to shut off. it could be the battery that has a short in it .who knows you might have got a bad alternator.you can get bad in anything you buy.
ok torus
