It is easy to do and will satisfy your needs a lot better, altho' you did not post your question clear. what year and make of engine? Using the right mount should not be a problem. as far as the wiring as always, There is a pos. [+] wire that goes directly to the battery from the rear of the alternator.

Alternators that has the regulator mounted internally only needs one other wire. This wire is to 'excite' the alternator when the operation begins.[switch on]

Have you looked at using a battery isolator? Might save you some headaches.

Do you mean you want a separate generator with its own motor to be used to charge the battery? This is incredibly inefficient unless you absolutely have to charge the battery while the RV isn't running, because of the poor efficiency of the gasoline generator engine. If you don't have it already, a splitter to charge the inside battery from the motor of the vehicle is much better.

If you want to charge a 12 volt battery from a 120 volt generator, just buy a plug in battery charger.

And you seem to think an alternator is a 12 volt device while a generator is something else. Cars used to have 12 volt generators for recharging batteries and alternators are more reliable and cheaper, so all cars have them now - make AC electricity and rectify it with solid state electronics. You can't change a generator to an alternator.
