Does an alternator on a car make winding sound?

The alternator was changed, still the same.. What could be the problem?

Your alternator should NOT make a whining sound, and I WOULD worry about it, even if it's NOT loud. It could GET loud later, when the work is out of warranty. The belt could be too tight or too loose, or the new alternator could be defective. It could also be misaligned pulleys. It may also be something other than the alternator making the sound, such as the timing belt, or even a vacuum leak.

Either way, you should take it back to the mechanic who installed the alternator. He shouldn't have released the car to you in the first place, at least until he figured out what the sound was.

If HE'S the one who told you that this is normal, then that means he has no idea what the sound is, %26amp; he's just trying to get rid of you. You might eventually have to take it to someone else.

some alternators make a whining sound, it could be the bracket is bent or misaligned, unless it's really loud, i wouldn't worry about it...
